Rep. Vargas Names Imperial County Veteran Services Representative, Lorena Lacar, July “Citizen of the Month”
El Centro, CA (July 12, 2013) –Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) delivers the July “Citizen of the Month” award to Imperial Valley resident Lorena Lacar. Rep. Vargas is acknowledging Lacar for her commitment to helping veterans access the benefits they have earned and working to improve the overall well-being of the Imperial Valley’s veteran community.
“It is such an honor to recognize Lorena Lacar for the amazing work she does in the veteran community,” said Rep. Vargas. “She plays an absolutely vital role at the Imperial County Veteran Services Office and her efforts improve the lives of countless veterans in the Valley. She truly makes a difference.”
Lacar has dedicated the last 18 years of her professional life to serving veterans. Her skills and positive outlook were immediately recognized at the Imperial County Veteran Services Office, making her an asset to the team. She currently serves as the Veteran Services Representative. Lacar is known for her persistence, compassion and desire to ensure that veterans receive the care they rightfully earned through military service.
Lacar’s efforts have been recognized by the veteran community throughout the years. She has received awards from veteran organizations such as the San Diego Regional Veterans Administration, Balboa Medical Center in San Diego, United Veterans Council, Veterans Employment Committee, and Veterans’ Posts. Most recently, she received a plaque of appreciation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9305.
“The veterans in the Imperial Valley are fortunate to have Lorena as such a loyal and devoted advocate,” stated Vargas. “Her passion and commitment are inspiring and I am proud to represent her in Congress.”
The “Citizen of the Month” Award is presented to individuals, businesses, or organizations that dedicate themselves to improving the 51st Congressional District and the lives of those who reside therein.
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire US/Mexico border. Vargas is currently serving his first term in Congress. He represented the 40th California State Senate District from 2010-2012, the 79th California State Assembly District from 2000 – 2006 and served on the San Diego City Council from 1993 – 2000.
